GV II

Barn and attached stable. Early-mid C19, incorporating earlier materials, with some
later alterations. Granite and slatestone rubble with granite dressings, dry slate
roof with ridge coping. In one range, stable with lower roof level to left.The barn
is a bank barn, with central rear cart entry, with central front entrance; stable
also has central entry with loft over.
Barn has 2 C19 window openings, 12 panes, granite lintel to left and concrete to
right, central elliptical-headed granite chamfered doorway, loading door above with
hood extended from pitch of main roof, ventilation slit under eaves to left and
right, granite quoins to right, some chamfered, drain to front left. Stable to left
has C19 6-pane light with brick segmental head to left and right, similar central
granite doorway with pyramid stops, central ventilation slit under eaves and drain to
left; granite doorways possibly reused from original farmhouse. Left return of
stable has external stair of 8 granite steps, loft door with brick segmental head,
triangular set of pigeonholes in gable end; later rubble lean-to attached to rear of
stable. Right return of barn has line of roof raising in gable end and loading door
with cambered brick head; C20 single-storey addition to right. Rear of barn at
higher ground level has central cart entry corresponding to front loading door, with
hood extended from pitch of main roof, ventilation slit right and left under eaves.
Interior barn has 5-bay roof of scissors trusses and principal rafters, 2 rows of
purlins, stable has 3-bay similar roof, splayed reveals to openings under eaves.
