Memorial urn. To Tirsi, a pet dog, who died 1768. Carved limestone urn
and pedestal. A large Neo-Classical urn about l½M tall set on a pedestal
of equal height and about 1M square, set within a circle of Yew trees.
Urn has carved wave-pattern around base, moulded stem to ovoid shaped
body with key-pattern band around shoulder. Egg-and-dart band and
acanthus knob to cap. Solid stone plinth with raised and fielded panel
to each face and inscription cut in W side. Moulded base and cap with
delicate corona. Inscription reads: 'Within these Shades in peaceful
Ashes lies/The most endearing of his Species:/TIRSI loveliest of the
faithful kind/In manners meak, and of a gentle Mind./TIRSI/too early
lost! the Zephirs sigh,/His Mem'ry dear, his Mistrefs ever retains,/
And fair unspotted fame attend his Manes/Ob,:7 Sep tr 1768/Aetat 4.'.
