Terrace of dwellings. 1860-65. Stucco over rubble and brick, some structural cast-iron, hipped slate roofs behind moulded parapet. Italianate style.

Terrace forming one of two sides of the square, abutting Adelaide Crescent (qv) to south, No.18 returned to abut Nos 73-6 Western Road (qv).

Five storeys over basement, three-window frontage to each unit separated by quoins or pilasters forming 2:4:5:4:2 bays, all sash windows without glazing bars, some windows with blind boxes. Attic storey with three small square or round headed windows resting on moulded cornice, third floor three square-headed windows resting on flat string with Vitruvian scroll decoration, similar larger windows below with pilaster surrounds carrying entablature, segmental pediment to centre, first floor canted bay window with balustraded parapet resting on balcony with cast-iron balustrade carried on shaped stone brackets; ground floor tripartite window with twisted cast-iron mullions, cast-iron window box guards to some windows.

Flat-roofed paired Doric porches with balustrading, some with glass panels between columns as windbreaks held in place by wrought-iron supports. Entrances via short flights of steps, fanlights, doors with four recessed panels and key pattern decoration, some with inserted lights. Centre of terrace first and second floor windows built out to form two-storey loggia resting on three-bay colonnade of rusticated columns including a single porch. Cast-iron railings returned from entrances along street frontage.

Built for Sir Isaac Lyons Goldsmid as a continuation of Adelaide Crescent (qv), the north side of the 'square' is formed by Palmeira Mansions, Church Road (qv). Sir Isaac held the Portuguese title of Baron Palmeira, hence the name of the square.
