2 flats and day centre for senior citizens, formerly farmhouse. Possible C16 or
earlier open hall with chinmey-stack inserted in late C16, refronted in 1822 restored
mid C20 and with mid C20 extension to south which is not of special interest. Timber
framed building completely encased in brick, stack brick to front elevation and red
brick with grey headers to north elevation. Steeply pitched roof with large gablets
now clad with modern tiles. Off central late C16 filleted brick chimney-stack:
2 storeys 6 windows. The 2 northernmost windows are 16-pane sashes, the others are
mid C19 6-paned sashes. Doorcase has flat wooden cornice and brackets and 6 panelled
door, the top 4 panels glazed concreted by later wooden pain. The interior ground
floor retains part of massive spire beam and there is a wooden beam decorated with
painted spiral decorations and some other panels of painted plaster depicting the
load of a stag and fishscale decorations, probably C16 but not in situ. Roof not
accessive at time of survey but said to retain old timbers. The framing has been
completely boxed in with plaster-board but the shape is typical of an open hall house.
The Council are said to retain further panels of painted plaster which came from
this building.
