This portion of Cavendish Place was built between 1851/1855 but, like the
Burlington Hotel on Grand Parade of the same date, in character it appears
30 years earlier and is of late Regency style. 4 storeys and basement with
area. 1 window each. Stuccoed. Curved bay on all floors except the top
but including the basement, with cornice above it. 3 light window on
each floor of this bay. Cornice and parapet above top floor. Iron
balconies on 1st floor. Originally the 1st floor windows had hoods above
them, but these only survive at Nos 8, 9, 15 and 19. Glazing bars
missing. Round headed doorways. The end and centre houses project slightly
and have long and short quoins. On the East side of the street these
projecting houses have small pediments above their parapet. Some of the
houses have had a 2nd window inserted in the facade on some floors in
modern times. Nos 22 and 24 (now in the back part of the Pier Hotel)
have been altered by the insertion of a restaurant front on the ground
floor.
