House, now 2 dwellings. Mid-late C18 with C19 and C20 additions arid
alterations. Coursed squared herringbone-tooled stone, random nibble to C20
part; pantile roofs. Lobby-entry plan, 2 storeys, 4 bays with C19 bay added to
right (which with bay 4 now forms Post Office Cottage), and C20 single-storey
addition to far right (not of special interest). Main range: central C20
part-glazed door with herringbone-tooled lintel. Flanking windows (two on each
floor) have stone lintels and cills, bay 1-3 having 12-pane side-sliding sashes
and bay 4 having C20 casements, the lst-floor window opening widened. Added bay
has half-glazed C20 door with stone lintel and C20 casement in widened opening
above. Shaped kneelers and ashlar coping overall. To right end of original
house corniced stone stack, heightened in white C20 brick; and rebuilt central
ridge stack. Rear: flat-roofed C20 extension on right not of interest. Small,
square, central, lst-floor light and another at eaves on left. Interior of
Middle Cottage not inspected but said to retain original central back-to-back
fireplaces. Post Office Cottage formerly served as a Post Office.
