2/13 Barn at Cowards
15 metres east of house

GV II

Barn. Circa 1700. Timber frame weatherboarded on a low red
brick sill. Steep pitched roof formerly thatched, now covered in
corrugated iron. A tall 3-bay unaisled barn facing N with
central projecting gabled porch. Unjowled posts with staggered
mid-height rails between. Braces support heavy square softwood
tie-beams. Queen-strut trusses in the clasped purlin roof. The
last of a courtyard of farm buildings shown in an old photograph
at the house.
