OTTERTON OTTERY ROAD, Otterton
SY 0885
7/195 No.30 and The Bank
-
GV II
2 cottages. Probably C17, possibly earlier; rearranged and refurbished in late C19.
Plastered cob on stone rubble footings, some brick rebuilding; cob, stone rubble and
brick stacks, all topped with C19 brick, some Rolle Estate pots; thatch roof.
2 adjoining cottages facing north-west onto Ottery Road. The Bank on the right
(south-western) end is a 2-room plan cottage with a gable-end stack to the right
room and large projecting front lateral stack. No. 30 on the right is a 3-room plan
cottage. The right room here has a front corner stack, the centre room has an axial
stack backing onto the left room which has a projecting gable-end stack. This left
room looks like a C19 addition. The stairs are between the centre and right rooms.
Both cottages are 2 storeys.
Irregular 5-window front overall of C19 and C20 casements with glazing bars and all
the doors are C20. The doorway to The Bank is immediately right of the projecting
stack. 2 doorways to No.30, the main one in the centre of a symmetrical 2-window
section of the centre and right rooms, and another to the left room with a fixed
pane window alongside. Roof is gable-ended.
Interiors not available for inspection at the time of survey, but old beams and roof
timbers are said to be there.
