Giraffe house. Mid C19. Possibly by Charles Hansom. Brandon
Hill Grit rubble with limestone dressings, and tiled
cross-gabled roof with bands of black round-ended tiles. Open
plan. Tudor Gothic Revival style. 2 storeys and attic;
2-window range. Front has a right-hand gable, with ashlar
quoins to overhanging eaves, and dressings to openings with
ovolo mouldings. Right-hand 2-storey segmental-arched doorway
with paired attic windows above, tall left-hand 2-centred
arched doorway, with matching windows above. 2 small gabled
dormers. Right-hand return has a pair of gables, right-hand
doorway, 2 pairs of first-floor windows and a single
second-floor window. Mid C20 rear extension. INTERIOR: open to
the roof. A period villa in Hansom's manner, adapted to
housing giraffes.
