Town house, now flats. c.1840; altered. Red brick in Flemish
bond, with sandstone dressings and slate roof. Double-depth
double-fronted plan with small rear extension. Two storeys
over cellar, with added attic; 3 bays; symmetrical facade
framed by broad pilasters of brick which have stone caps with
roundels, plain frieze and moulded cornice over the whole, low
blocking course with shallow triangular upstand. The centre,
breaking forwards slightly, has a shallow porch (on 3 altered
steps) which has columns with stiff-leaf caps and square
abaci, an entablature with wreaths, dentilled cornice, and
blocking course with shallow triangular upstand, and at 1st
floor a recessed window under a cornice on consoles; the
flanking bays have canted bay windows at ground floor, with
raised sills, moulded cornices and blocking courses, and plain
windows at 1st floor with raised sills and formerly both with
wedge lintels (but that to the right replaced with an iron
lintel); all these windows with altered glazing. Roof has 3
modern attic dormers and gable chimneys. Rear: small 2-storey
extension on parallel axis, altered. INTERIOR: staircase with
carved brackets and mahogany handrail (modern wrought-iron
balusters); complete suite of cellar rooms, including front
laundry with slopstone and washing boiler (no tunnel to front
garden); otherwise, not inspected.
