Description

PRESTON

SD53SE GAMULL LANE
941-1/2/140 (West side)
Former railway station on former
Longridge Railway

II

Small railway station building including station master's
house and booking office, now private dwelling. Mid C19,
altered. Coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings,
composition tile roof. Rectangular single-depth plan
comprising house to left and ticket office to right. Two
storeys, a 5-window range (including small stairwindow); with
prominent moulded gutter cornice. The former station master's
house has symetrically-arranged openings: a tall central
doorway with pilaster jambs, cornice, and overlight, a low
rectangular stairwindow above this, and two 12-pane sashes on
each floor, those at ground floor with cornices like that of
the doorway, and all with plain surrounds. The ticket office
to the right has a matching doorway, a matching window to the
right, a small 4-pane sashed window to the right of this
(ticket window), an 8-pane sash over the door and a 12-pane
sash to the right of this. Gable chimneys with prominent
cornices. INTERIOR altered. Interesting example of small
country station building.
