2 houses adjoining. Early C19. Painted stucco walls, with angle pilasters and
eaves cornice, on chamfered plinth. Graduated greenslate roofs, that of Birkby
Cottage hipped, with stucco chimney stacks. Birkby House 2 storeys, 3 bays with
single-storey, single-bay wing to left; higher 3-bay house to right. Birkby
House has panelled door within Doric doorcase. C20 plastic casement windows
with glazing bars in painted stone surrounds. Wing has Venetian window. Birkby
Cottage has C20 door and side lights within Ionic doorcase. Sash windows with
glazing bars, that over entrance double. C20 garage door in Birkby Cottage
forms part of Birkby House.
