Town wall forming boundary wall of
gardens of Nos 5-9 (odd))

GV II

Section of wall. Late C15. Limestone rubble and dressings with
brick. Approx 30m long with a 4-centre-arched doorway with
chamfered jambs and parapet with a corbelled overhang, and
steps up to over the doorway. Brick extension runs E along St
Clement's Lane. HISTORICAL NOTE: traditionally thought to have
been a section of town wall, built by Richard III, and
mentioned in Leland, but more likely to have formed part of a
merchant's house.
