No.15
Moor Park Hotel

GV II

Public house. c.1830, altered. Red brick in Flemish bond (and
formerly stuccoed), with sandstone dressings and slate roof.
Rectangular double-depth plan. Simple classical style. Two
storeys over cellars; a symmetrical 3-window facade, with
stone plinth, stone frieze, cornice and blocking course, and
hipped roof with 2 chimney stacks behind the ridge. The
central doorway is framed by a large tetrastyle Ionic doorcase
composed of engaged columns (short cast-iron railings linking
each pair), with a deep frieze and moulded cornice (large
modern lettering "MOOR PARK" now attached to frieze), and has
a recessed panelled door with overlight; the windows at ground
floor are sashed without glazing bars and have raised sills
and wedge lintels, and those at 1st floor are 4-pane sashes
with raised sills. Left return wall has doorway with stone
surround, one window on each floor with altered glazing;
right-hand return wall has 2 sashed windows at ground floor
and one above; rear rendered, and C20 addition at ground
floor. INTERIOR altered. History: probably associated with
cattle market which occupied site on opposite side of road in
earlier C19.
