Mill House and Mill Cottage

Mill house, now 2 dwellings. 1730-31 for Earl of Westmorland, extended
C19. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and Collyweston
slate roof. L-shape plan. 2 storeys with attic. Main front is
a 3-window range of large, 3-light, cross casements at first floor
and 2 canted bay windows, with slated roofs, at ground floor.
First floor windows are under gauged stone heads. Central 4-panel,
part-glazed door, is under similar head and has a rectangular fanlight
with glazing bars. 2 hipped roof dormers. Ashlar gable parapets
and rebuilt stone stacks at ends. C19 extension at intersection
of wing, to rear. Interior not inspected but noted as having ovolo-
moulded cross beams, a reset C18 stair, with turned balusters, and
some early C19 plasterwork. The house was built by John Dimbleby
a mason and Edward Orper, a carpenter.
