Horse engine house. Early to mid C19 with some C20 alterations. Structure carried on
monolithic stone pillars linked in parts by rubble stone walling beneath a hipped
Westmorland slate roof. 2-bay single storey building with canted bay end to the north
end to accommodate the circular path of the drive horse. Areas between pillars now
infilled with C20 sheeting and boarding. Interior; wide tie beam truss links parallel
sections of sidewalls and carries ties to the faceted end wallplate. Parallel beams at right
angles to principal tie beam are carried into sidewall of adjacent outbuilding.Remains of
former drive shaft supports are attached to roof timbering.
