Screen wall and attached former farmhouse, outbuildings and yard wall. Farmhouse
and southern outbuilding probably late C17, altered C18 and C19; screen wall late
C18. 2nd outbuilding and yard wall mid-late C19. Late C17 work of rubblestone
with red brick dressings and red brick in English bond; mid C18 work of red brick
in Flemish bond; late C18 work (on east side) of cream beaulieu brick in Flemish
bond. C19 work of red brick in Flemish garden wall bond. Plain tile and
Cumberland slate roofs; some replacement corrugated iron. Former farmhouse at
north end of range of 2 storeys, 1+3 bays; outbuilding at south end of range of 1
storey with loft 3 bays; between them former 2-bay cartshed. On the east side the
whole range has been refronted late C18 to aggrandise the main approach to Cams
Hall (q.v). East elevation: screen wall has blind round-arched arcade, some of
the arches with blind oculi; at the centre is a panel having 3 niches with archi-
volts (partly masked by c.l900 toilet block, not of special interest), and to
either side quoined panels with rectangular recesses; formerly taller, with square
recesses at upper level. Where the wall fronts the farmhouse is a round-arched
doorway with 2-light dormer above, and rising above the wall at right end is farm-
house addition which has two 6-pane windows to first floor and hipped Cumberland
slate roof. C20 addition not of special interest. Beyond this is attached farm-
yard wall with oversailing brick coping, formerly ramping down to gatepier (this
and top part of wall removed). West elevation: outbuilding on right has central
board door in brick-quoined opening with flat brick arch and board hatch door over
and flanking windows in similar surrounds, the latter with later glazing and
arches, brick eaves course; roof replaced by flat corrugated iron sheeting.
Former cartshed to left has 2 double-board doors (collapsing) and roof collapsed.
Farmhouse: mid-C18 added wing on left has canted front (part collapsed) with some
remaining 12-pane sashes. The 3 earlier right-hand bays have late C19 added
central canted stair lower with 4-pane sashes and door in right return; to either
side a wide segmental-arched window with C19 windows and above each a late C19
window breaking eaves. Interior: the southern outbuilding has openings on east
side matching those of the west side but masked by the C18 screen wall. The farm-
house has, in C17 part, a large-scantling chamfered beam with stepped triangular
stop; C18 wing panelled. Derelict at time of inspection (October 1989).
