Description

ROXWELL Boyton Cross
TL 6478 0920

7/895 The Beadles:
Tupp'ny Breeze
II and Crossways

House, now 3 tenements. Mid C16 hall house with crosswing. Timber framed and plastered,
with grey slate and red plain tile roof hipped to left. 2 storeys. 6 window range,
various C20 casements. C20, gabled and glazed central porch. Chimney stacks in red
and grey brick, rendered. Internally most of the original frame survives, which is
good quality oak, with jowled storey posts and arch braced lodged side purlin roof.
Chamfered bridging joists with bar and run-out stops. Soffit tenons with diminished
haunches to floor joists. Hall range is 4 structural bays, and crosswing is 3 bays,
formerly gabled to front, now oversailed. Despite its exterior this is a particularly
fine example of a C16 traditional house.
