C1860-70 warehouses, may have been a symmetrical group. 'A' warehouse is of 5 storeys
stock brick, with granite dressings and reveals to ground floor flanking hatches of
3 bay symmetrical front. Channelled rustication to quoin pilasters. moulded brick
cornice and parapet with central dormer hatch framed in brick with dentil cornice.
The fifth floor bridge from the opposite side of road gives access to it. Flanking
linked hatch ranks from first floor up, timber jambs only slightly recessed,
segmental gauged arches. Centre bay has small paned iron frame segmental arched
window to third and fourth floors. Hatches to floors below, that on second floor giving
on to lower bridge across to north warehouse. 'E' warehouse is of 4 storeys and attic,
stock brick with a 3 bay front, the coped parapet raised in gable over oculus.
Segmental arched windows with Portland sills flanking hatch rank, the timber jambs
only slightly recessed. River elevations have suffered some alteration, but are
similar. Linked across Wapping High Street to St John's Wharves warehouses north
block (qv)), by means of the now increasingly rare gantry gangways, this group of
warehouses still preserve some of the cavernous, ravine-like quality which once
characterised Wapping High St. They also have some architectural character, and
preserve their original hoists.
