Warehouse, converted as boiler-house, engine-house to
Sandygate Mill c1860 (not included); derelict at time of
inspection (July 1990). Mid C19 with later modifications.
Coursed gritstone; Welsh slate roof. Warehouse aligned roughly
east-west with taking-in doors both to Leeds-Liverpool Canal
(north) and an unnamed street off Sandygate to south, later
converted into an industrial building of uncertain function.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Canal elevation: regular 6-window range.
All windows blocked, those to 1st floor with stone sills and
lintels at the level of the moulded stone eaves cornice -
except bay 3 (loading bay) where opening set lower in tooled
surround with iron frame for joist at sill level. Ground
floor: 2 windows to left as above. Loading bay with large
round-headed opening on plinth, blocked, with later window,
itself blocked. Of the 3 windows to the right, 2 round-headed
with transoms at impost level; tall window to extreme right
partly infilled with brick. Small contemporary end stack (with
gable coping) to left. Later tall stone stack with iron hoops
breaks through front roof slope (to left).
Rear: tall rusticated plinth; tall plinth (in addition) for
corner stack (now dismantled). 2 large windows; slightly
recessed taking-in door under gable. Attached to rear, its
west wall flush with west return of warehouse, an engine
house, rectangular in plan, one round-headed opening to each
wall (except north), surmounted by iron panelled water tank.
INTERIOR not inspected.
