Police station. 1863, extended c1870. Stone rubble with red brick dressings and stone string course. Slate hipped roof. PLAN: long rectangular plan with splayed right-hand [N] end, and with 3-bay extension at left [SE] end built about 1870. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 7-bay NE front with 3-bay addition projecting on left. 16-pane sashes with flat rubbed brick arches, brick jambs and stone cills. Central doorway with similar brick arch and jambs and with rectangular overlight with glazing bars and flush panelled door. Stone string course at first floor level, inscribed at centre:- COUNTY POLICE STATION. 3 bays on left similar but with lower string course and eaves. Splayed corner on right. At rear, sash windows on first floor with glazing bars and smaller cell windows on ground floor with iron bars; single-storey addition on right; extension to main range on right has brick rear wall and gabled wing. INTERIOR: The old cells have been retained, with their WCs.
