Veterinary surgery. Purpose built c1890. Red brick. Roofs of
slate and glass (south-east pile), concrete tiles (north-west
pile). Plan in form of 2 gabled ranges parallel to each other.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys; 4-window range in all. South-east range
with a wide central arched entrance with rusticated quoins and
a keyblock. Arch with the words: `veterinary infirmary'. To
right and left are further rustications to corners. Between
the rustications are one small metal window with an oculus
each side. First floor with 2 similar windows and a central
roundel. Ground-floor corner rustications rise as pilasters to
an open pediment. Gabled roof with a glazed ridge. Plain south
return except for a range of upper 2-light segmental
casements. North-west range with 2 arched metal casements to
each floor, those to the left partly blocked. Hay-loft loading
door to first floor between the windows. Gabled roof.
INTERIOR: right and left of entrance are arched doorways
fitted with half-glazed doors. Second main arch gives into
interior which is in form of an open enclosed courtyard with
mid and late C20 lean-to's constructed within. North wall with
an arched opening and a basket-arched opening both leading to
animal stalls and operating theatres in north range. Between
them are 2 conventional loose boxes with doors. Over the round
arch is a loading platform to hay-loft. Dentil platband and a
saw-toothed eaves cornice. Six 2-light casements to upper
floor. Roof of tensioned cast-iron trusses.
