2 terraced houses and attached railings. c1820-34, shown as
built on Merrett's Map of 1834, but not on the Post Office Map
of 1820. Stucco over brick with concealed roof, brick end and
party-wall stacks with cornices; iron railings and balconies.
Double-depth plan.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys on basements, 5 first-floor windows,
arranged 2:3. Stucco detailing includes first- and
second-floor plat bands; crowning frieze and cornice with
blocking course. 6/6 sashes where original (otherwise 1/1),
taller to first floor; blind 4th window to second floor;
basement has 8/8 and 3/6 sashes. Left entrances:
6-fielded-panel door where original (to right) with fanlights,
radial glazing to right, in plain reveals. Rear elevations
have more elaborate treatment: 3 storeys, 1:3:3 first-floor
windows. No.12, the left bay breaks forwards and has 6/6 sash
to ground and first floors; then 3 first-floor 3/6 sashes with
radial glazing to heads and slender Doric pilasters between
surmounted by first-floor band and similar pilasters between
2/2 sashes with margin-lights and iron latticework 'aprons'.
Ground floor has 'loggia' with French windows with overlight;
then a recessed 9-pane window with margin-lights and overlight
and with fanlight over; off-centre entrance a 6-panel,
part-glazed door with sidelights and overlight. Right house
(No.10) breaks forwards. Paired pilasters to either side of
right-hand window. First floor has 2/2 sashes with margin
lights; second floor has 6/6 and 1/1 horned sashes with
pilasters between. Similar latticework 'aprons' below windows.
Ground floor at left is set back with trellis and sunburst
'arch', then a casement window; entrance at right a glazed
door with overlight.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: area spearhead railings and gates with
urns to stanchions. First-floor individual balconies have
embellished rods and central scroll panels. Scrolled boot
scrapers.
