COLLEGE ROAD.
House, now offices. Former house to High Street is included,
but not additions to rear. c1810-20 (apparently on The Post
Office Map of 1810) with later alterations including offices
to rear of c1983-1988. Stucco over brick with hipped slate
roof and tall stucco side stacks, wrought-iron verandah with
lead enrichments.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and central full-height bow which has 3
windows to each floor. 6/6 sashes throughout, taller to first
floor, all in plain reveals and (except to first floor) with
sills. Blind-boxes remain to first-floor windows. First and
second floor have continuous plat bands. Entrance to right
return via later office building.
INTERIOR: retains many original features, first floor drawing
room has 2 marble chimneypieces with corbel brackets and iron
grates and tiled surrounds c1870s within; fluted architraves
to bay with flowers to corners, and acanthus cornice with
wheat ceiling frieze; similar architraves to doors throughout
with fluting and flowers to angles; original double doors lead
from old to new range. Second floor has simple Regency
fireplace with circle motif to corners. 6-panel doors with
similar architraves; double doors lead through to new range.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: first-floor verandah has scroll motif to
upright with embellished rod-and-star motif with lattice to
balustrade and frieze.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Addressed on Merrett's 1834 Map as Belle Vue
Place.
