20/05/74 The Victoria Mill waterwheel and
sluice

GV II

Waterwheel and sluice for Victoria Mill (qv). Sluice early
C19, perhaps altered to accommodate wheel of c1850. Dressed
gritstone with iron machinery and wheel.
Rectangular sluice with intact regulating devices for the
undershot wheel. Axle mountings and spur wheel survive. Tail
race passes beneath a basket arch into tunnel under mill yard.
Waterwheel: dilapidated 8-spoke wheel of cast and forged iron
elements approximately 4m wide and 5m in diameter. Wheel
currently stored out of the water.
