School of Art. 1912. By JW Cockrill. Steel frame with red
brick cladding and terracotta details. 2 storeys on a
basement. Facade faces east, a 3-window range. The corners
have polygonal turrets with terracotta panels at the divisions
of the storeys and terracotta sills to the windows. Deeply
recessed central doors under a Diocletian window, all within a
coffered round-arched recess. The arch springs from a triglyph
frieze and entablature standing on 4 unfluted Roman Doric
columns. One 5-light leaded cross casement left and right and
3 to the first floor. Pilasters flanking central bay rise to a
raised parapet to terminate in bulbous terracotta finials.
North flank a 4-window range, each divided by polygonal
turrets with terracotta details and finials as before.
INTERIOR: staircase with wrought-iron balusters supporting a
rounded handrail.
Wrought-iron railings to the east and north returns with minor
Art Deco scrolled finials.
