Description

TQ 67 41 BRENCHLEY BRENCHLEY ROAD, MARKET HEATH

15/50 Town Farm Dairy

GV II

2 cottages and an outbuilding. C18 or c19, the cottages undergoing renovation
at time of survey (1989). Cottages brick to the ground floor, first floor
weatherboarded; peg-tile roofs; brick stacks. Outbuilding framed
construction, weatherboarded on brick footings.

Plan: On a roadside site. The outbuilding faces north and is roofed on an
east-west axis, parallel to the road. The cottages adjoin the outbuilding at
the east end, at right angles and project beyond it to the front (north). The
cottages are 2-cell, the eastern with a lateral stack at the junction with the
west cottage, which has an axial stack. Lofted outbuilding.

Exterior: Asymmetrical 1:1:3 window front to the road, the cottages to the
left with hipped roofs, the barn roof gable-ended. The left hand cottage has
2 C20 small-pane casements and a door into the north end at the left. The
right hand cottage has a 3-light probably C20 casement. The outbuilding has a
sliding door to left of centre with a loft door over. 2 first floor and 2
ground floor probably C19 casement windows with glazing bars flank these
openings with a smaller 3-light fixed window to the right. The right end has
a door on the ground floor and loft door above.

Interior: Plain interiors to the cottages. Interior of outbuilding not
inspected.

Forms an attractive, irregular roadside group in the hamlet of Market Heath.
