6/140 Halfway House Public House

GV II

Public House. Circa mid C19 with a probably earlier rear wing. Main block
Flemish bond brick with blue headers, rear wing tile-hung, framed block
adjoining at east end weatherboarded; peg-tile roof; brick stacks.

Plan: South facing, sited just below the road. The main block is 2 rooms
wide with a central entrance and end stacks. Rear wing at right angles with
an axial stack. A single-storey block at the right (east) end is probably a
former outbuilding.

Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 3-bay front, the main range roof gabled at
ends. C19 half-glazed central front door with a round-headed rubbed red brick
arch over. 2 ground and 2 first floor circa mid C19 16-pane sashes, the
ground floor windows with plain panelled shutters. The block at the right
(east) end is slightly set back and roofed at right angles to the main range.
This block has a C20 door in the south end and 3 C20 casements on the right
return.

Interior: The main block undergoing internal alterations at time of survey
(1989). A circa mid C19 chimney-piece survives at the left end.
