TQ 1185 9553

Turnpike road marker. Probably early Cl9; for the Sparrows Herne Trust. Cast-iron
post approx 0.6 m high with square base and round-faced upper part bearing relief
legend, 'SPARROWS HERNE TRUST'. The Trust operated from 1762 to 1873 between London
and Buckinghamshire via Watford and Tring. There is one other surviving marker at
Tring (qv. Tring, Herts; 11/85).
