Description

TQ 64 SE BRENCHLEY TIBBS COURT LANE

6/189 Hilltop Cottage

GV II

Small cottage. Probably late C18/early C19. Framed construction, clad in
weatherboarding, the left end wall partly rebuilt in brick; peg-tile roof;
brick stack.

Plan: The cottage faces west, on a corner site. It is a remarkably narrow 2-
cell plan with a central entrance, a kitchen/parlour to the left (north)
heated from an end stack and an unheated room to the right. The size was
presumably determined by the rather awkward site.

Exterior: 2 storeys. Almost symmetrical 3-bay front with a C20 central
glazed front door with a sloping corrugated iron hood. 2 first floor C19 or
C20 2-light casements, 6 panes per light, similar window to ground floor
right, similar 3-light casement to ground floor left.

Interior: Not inspected.

One of a group of small cottages forming an artisan hamlet in Tibbs Court
Lane.
