THE GREEN, Morchard Bishop
Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Whites Cottage

3 small cottages. Probably late C18 - early C19. Plastered cob on rubble footings;
rubble or cob stacks with plastered probably brick chimney shafts; slate and
corrugated iron roof (originally thatch). Three 1-room cottages facing south
comprising left (west) end of row of terraced cottages. No. 1 at left (west) end
has projecting end stack. Central No. 2 has left end stack in party wall with No 1,
and No 3 has rear lateral stack and No. 2 the Forge (q.v.) adjoining to right (east)
2-storeys. Each cottage has a 2-window front of mostly late C19 - early C20
casements with glazing bars with exception of C20 16-pane sash to ground floor of
No. 2. No. 1 has plank door on left side, Nos 2 and 3 have plank doors to right.
No. 3 is recessed slightly from frontage of Nos 1 and 2. C20 gable-ended slate roof
to No 1; Nos 2 and 3 have corrugated iron roof over thatch.
Interior: mostly early features are hidden by C20 plasterwork and fireplaces are
blocked. Only No 2 shows an exposed crossbeam which is plainly chamfered. Roof not
inspected.
