SU 63 6451 (PART) BASINGSTOKE LONDON STREET

House now shop and offices. Late C16 and later. Timber front, plastered infills,
slated roof. Two storeys, 3 bays, the centre wider to accommodate a cross passage to
the right. Large later C20 addition at rear. Originally, jettied at front; jetty
removed in C19 when new timber-framed facade built in line of ground floor wall, with
arcuated cross-bracing between studs, all exposed. Ground floor has C20 shopfront;
above, central oriel sash window flanked by single sashes. Survival of original frame
limited to first floor structure (with stepped stop-chamfered joists) and crosswall
frames above, incorporating heavily-cambered tie beam supporting queen post trusses
and clasped purlins.
