Opened 1742-3. 3 storey, red brick front with rusticated quoins, completed by
1758. Central 3 windows were at this time recessed, and this was altered and the
pediment added 1772. Present central doorway 1859. Original cupola dated 1742.
Area railings 1831. Halford wing, 1858. The front is articulated thus. 5.5.3.3.3.5.5.
Sash windows in flush frames with glazing bars and elliptical heads, Dentil cornice,
slate roof. Interior: Board Room panelling etc, 1753. One of the earliest provincial
hospitals.
Nos 15 to 28 (consec), Nos 30 to 36 (consec), Nos 38 to 4O (consec), Royal Devon
and Exeter Hospital, Nos 45, 46 and No 52 form a group.
