Terrace of 5 houses. c1840. Possibly by Sir Charles Barry Jnr.
Buff brick with terracotta dressings, ridge stacks and tiled
roof with fishscale tiles. Picturesque Tudor Revival style.
Single-depth plan.
Single-storey and attic; 6-bay range. A symmetrical terrace,
the end pairs of houses with outer 4-centre-arched doorways,
rustic timber gabled porches to Nos 20 & 18, the central house
is double-fronted. 3- and 2-light windows with labels and
3-centre-arched metal lattice casements, 2-light gabled
dormers, the middle pair smaller. Large stacks on square bases
each with 4 diagonally set shafts. Each house has a plaque
with Gothic numbers, from 45 to 49, part of a sequence
covering the estate houses of the Wimborne estate. No.16 has a
mid C20 brick extension and window inserted to the former
doorway. INTERIOR not inspected.
Forms a symmetrical terrace with group value with the similar
facing terrace Nos 15-19 (qv), and forming the design upon
which the C19 estate housing on the Canford estate was based.
