Pair of shops with domestic accommodation above. c1890.
Knapped flint with red brick dressings. Machine-tile roof.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and dormer attic. 2-window range. 2
simple, but original, plate-glass shop fronts, each of 3
divisions and with entrances in the canted diagonal corners
under diminutive pediments. Display windows continue into
returns, reduced by C20 brick to the south (No.76). First
floor with 2 canted bay windows set within segmental-arched
recesses and fitted with 16/2 main and 8/1 side sashes, all
without horns. Second floor with a string course and vertical
brick strips dividing it into 6 bays. 2 unhorned sashes under
segmental heads, that to right (No.77) with original 8/8
glazing bars, the other now only 2/2. Decorative brick
interlace cornice interrupted by 6 terracotta consoles atop
the vertical brick strips. The soffit of the eaves with
terracotta punched sexfoil roundels. Mansard roof with 2
segmentally-pedimented dormers to east and west roof slopes
fitted with 2-light casements. The casements to No.76 have 8
plus 8 glazing bars, to No.77 3 plus 3. Smaller pedimented
dormers to north and south. 2 big square stacks, that to front
(east) of flint with brick dressings, the other all brick.
