Market Tavern Public House

GV II

Public house. Early C20. Rendered and colourwashed brick.
Slate roof. 4 storeys; 2-window range. Public house frontage
has two 4-centred doorways and paired plate-glass windows with
curved transoms. Ionic pilasters divide the elements. Fascia
board with pediments over the doors. First floor has 2 bay
windows with curved corners and modified Venetian windows.
String courses between floors above. Second floor lit through
2 tripartite horned sashes without glazing bars but set within
eared and shouldered surrounds with scrolled overthrows. 2
similar third-floor windows, here without the overthrows.
Modillion eaves cornice and parapet. Gabled roof with internal
gable-end stacks. Large late C20 extensions to rear.
INTERIOR: opened out into large room but with some fittings
retained.
