School. 1886. By Osborne Smith. Red brick in Flemish bond.
Welsh slate roof with ornate brick stacks to left and right,
and flanking centre. Neo-Dutch style.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement; 9 bays arranged 3:3:3. At
centre an 8-panelled double door, upper panels glazed, set
under rounded arch, flanked by 2 sashes, each 4 panes with 2
fixed panes over and set under rounded arches with roll
moulded surrounds. Approach to entrance is up 11 stone steps
with brick flanking balustrades and end piers. External stacks
flanking centre channelled above gables and with brick
cornices. On right three 4-pane sashes, with 2-pane ventilator
lights over, set under rubbed brick segmental arches. On left
2 similar and 2 smaller sashes. Deep brick sillband. First
floor has nine 12-pane sashes with 3-pane ventilator light
over, each set under segmental brick arches with brick
keystones. Brick dentilled cornice over. Second floor has 9
sashes each set under segmental brick arch with projecting
brick labels, taller central sash to each of the 3 sections of
12 panes with 3-pane ventilator light over, and 12-pane
flanking sashes. 3 shaped brick gables, outer gables with
rounded tops and centre gable with pediment. Left and right
returns have shaped gables and broad stacks. Projecting wing
at rear.
