Pair of houses, now office and office with flats over. 1820s,
altered. Red brick in Flemish bond, with sandstone dressings
and slate roof. Double depth plan, No.8 single-fronted and
No.9 double-fronted. Two storeys with basements and attics,
2+3 bays, with ashlar basement treated as a plinth, 1st floor
sill-band, plain frieze and moulded cornice with blocking
course. The doorways, in the 2nd and 4th bays, both up 3
steps, have doorcases with engaged Tuscan columns, square
abaci, plain friezes and moulded cornices, plain jambs with
imposts, and recessed panelled doors with elliptical
fanlights. No.8 has two 12-pane sashes at 1st floor, otherwise
all the windows are sashed without glazing bars, and all have
raised sills and wedge lintels. Two gabled dormers at No.9;
chimneys on the ridge and at the gables. Continued to left of
No.8 is a small single-storey service wing with one window and
a door; and attached to the right of No.9 is a C20 addition
(entrance to Nos.9A and 9B). Three basement areas (left,
centre, and right), all with complete sets of railings which
have alternating curvilinear and stick balusters, with gates
to the service door of No.8 and at the right-hand end at No.9.
Rear: both have 2-storey canted bays, and No.9 also has a
large 2-storey bow with observatory deck.
INTERIOR: 1st floor of No.9 (flat No.9A) has fine drawing room
with moulded plaster panels, plaster cornices etc.
