Pair of attached houses. c1840. Limestone ashlar with party
wall and lateral stacks and a slate hipped roof. Double-depth
plan. Italianate style.
Each of 2 storeys, attic and basement; 2-window range. A
symmetrical front has shallow projecting wings with pilasters,
sill bands, frieze, cornice and parapet. Tripartite inner
windows, 6/6-pane sashes, No.3 has a full-height C19 canted
bay with cornices. Doorways in symmetrical end returns in
single-storey porches, over and side lights with glazing bars
and 6-panel doors, with blind outer windows and outer
pilasters.
INTERIOR: half-glazed door with over and side lights to a
flagged hall with elliptical arch with panelled reveals to
inner rooms; an open, side dogleg stair with cast-iron
balusters, a curtail and wreathed rail, to a first-floor
landing with overhanging platform, and semicircular-arched
doorway with a fanlight; 6-panel doors, panelled shutters and
cornices.
