GV II

Lodge. c1875. For JT Smith. Snecked red sandstone, slate roof.
T-shaped plan entered via porch on left return; 1-storey and
attic. Battered plinth, large quoins. Gabled front has
1-storey canted-bay window with plain sashes in 1:2:1 lights
under hipped roof; mullioned 2-light window above; bargeboards
to steeply-pitched roof. Side wing set back on right: narrow
sash in chamfered stone surround; right end of roof hipped;
ridge stack. Left return (facing drive to Crosslands, qv):
gabled porch with pointed arch and side windows; square-headed
door within; mullioned 2- light window to right. JT Smith
managed the Barrow Haematite Iron and Steel Company. Drawings
survive for this lodge; submitted in 1875. Included for group
value.
