4/203 Beech House and Tall Trees

House, now 2 houses in multiple occupation. Early - mid C19 with C20 alterations.
Coursed limestone squared rubble, stone dressings, Beech House has slate and
bitumen roof, concrete tiles to Tall Trees. Asymmetrical composition with gables.
Beech House (to left) of 2½ storeys and 3 windows, gable end to left; ground and
first floor have 2-light window, 6 panes in lower section, chamfered transom all
panes have ogee heads at ground floor and triangular heads at first floor, similar
4-light window ground and first floor right, gable end has 6-light at ground floor
and 4-light at first floor, 4-light window with shaped head in gable (all 2nd
floor windows similar), raised stonework under verges, as on The Poplars (q.v.),
finial. Left return has varied C20 windows, small gable with raised coped verges
and kneelers, door inserted in former gable window, finial and C20 fire escape
stair. Tall Trees (to right) of 2½ storeys and 2 windows has C20 porch and door,
4-light similar window to right, first floor has large stair light to left of
4 lights with stone panels and shields in centre, ogee heads to panes in lower
section, pointed arched heads in upper section, 2 quatrefoils at top, 4-light
window to right with hood mould, small gable as at Ieft return. Right return has
single storey C20 extension, first floor has 4-light window to left, corbelled
external stacks, gable end to right with first floor 4-light window, similar
2nd floor window, raised stonework under raised coped verges, kneelers and finial.
Rear of Beech House has 3-light window, C20 French window with hood mould, string
course, first floor has 6-light mullion and transom window with hood mould,
4-light window at first floor, to right a 3-sided bay through 2½ storeys, ground
floor with 3-light window with cusped ogee heads, high continuous hood mould,
similar single light to each side, first floor has 6-light window with 2-light to
each side, continuous hood mould, small gable above with side walls ramped up to
front, similar gable window with triangular glazing bars at top, raised stonework
under verges. Interior: not inspected.
