GV II

Lodge to Rochetts (not included). Early C19, C20. Brick,
roughcast rendered, thatched roof. Circular plan, central
stack, C20 additions to NE side. Single storey, deep overhang
of eave supported on arcade of wooden posts with rustic
braces. 3 original iron casement windows with pulls, latches
and saddle bars, 6x5 leaded panes, one still with stay
attached to sill. Frames have moulded architraves. One window
boarded over within old frame. To SW, C20 PVC French window
with imitation leaded panes, set within original door opening,
moulded as window frames. C20 addition, roughcast, with flat
roof, to NE, central door with lower sunk panel and upper
glazing with leaded panes, either side, one 4-light casement
window with leaded panes and one long 2-light casement window
with leaded panes.
INTERIOR refurbished, central stack standing free and
fireplace open both back and front. The lodge is said to have
been a game larder and is the subject of an article in Essex
Countryside. Queen Mary Chapel (qv), the granary (qv) and the
Lodge to Rochetts form a group.
