3 shops with flat over. C16 or early C17, probably with
mediaeval origins, with later alterations including late
C18/early C19 refronting and early C20 shopfronts; building to
left C19, possibly with earlier origins, with C20 alterations.
Lined-out stucco to fronts; Welsh slate parapeted roofs with
hip to front to right; brick lateral stacks to right sides to
left and right. Rear wing to right externally early C19,
coursed squared limestone, concrete tile roof with brick stack
on gable end. Rear wing to left in 2 parts has stucco to right
side, coursed squared limestone rubble to end; Welsh slate
roof; brick stack on gable end; lower part to rear rendered
with concrete tile roof.
Pair of buildings to right, separate building to left, in one
ownership with internal access between buildings.
To left, 3-storey 4-window range. First floor has four
single-light windows in plain reveals with projecting cills
with C20 leaded casements; second floor has three C19/ C20
horned sashes, two 4/4-pane flanking 6/6-pane sash in plain
reveals with projecting cills. Ground floor has C20 timber
shopfront with 2 curved plate glass windows and glazed door to
right with single-pane overlight in surround of pilasters,
heavy console brackets, frieze and moulded cornice with blind
box, in similar style to pair of shopfronts to right. Band
course over second floor, bracketed eaves cornice and blocking
course.
To right, 2-storey 4-window range. First floor has four
6/6-pane sashes in plain reveals; ground floor has pair of
early C20 timber shopfronts in Art Nouveau style each with
sinuous glazing bars to 2 windows flanking glazed door, in
heavy surround with pilasters to each side, frieze and moulded
cornice incorporating blind box. Parapet over eaves moulded as
frieze and cornice. Clock on ornamental iron bracket to first
floor centre.
Right side of rear wing facing onto Swan Yard has 2 early C19
6/6-pane sashes to first floor, one similar sash to ground
floor, small C20 shopfront. Flat unmoulded door surround with
keyed lintel now blocked. Right side of rear wing of building
to left is 2 storeys and single-storey and attic with C20
windows and rooflights and one gabled dormer with single-light
casement to rear part; offset buttress at junction of 2 ranges
of wing.
INTERIOR to centre has to cellar 6 stone brackets to front
right, not now supporting floor, and one small bracket
possibly base for missing feature, all possibly mediaeval;
ground floor left has 2 boxed-out beams with panelled soffits
to front and rear, ground floor centre has 2 plastered beams
with applied run plaster cornice, 2 plastered beams to rear.
Interior to right has 2 cross-axial heavy moulded beams,
probably C16 or early C17 to ground floor front, one chamfered
spine beam with run out stop to first floor front, one
cross-axial heavy unmoulded beam to ground floor rear. Oxfam
shop to front has C20 staircase and C20 shopfittings. Access
to first floor flat not possible.
