of Plas Wigginton

Barn. Mid-C17 with later alterations. Timber framed with red brick infill
and rebuilding on uncoursed sandstone rubble plinth; corrugated iron roof.
2 levels. Framing: mixture of rectangular panels, square panels, large
square panels and vertical posts with later thin horizontal members; long
straight tension braces. South side largely rebuilt in C19 red brick with a
variety of cross-shaped, Lorraine cross, lozenge and X-shaped air vents.
Full-height double doors to centre with slightly lower inserted entrances to
right. Doorways to left and right, former segmental headed. Eaves hatches,
one to left of centre and 3 to right. Interior: timber framed partitions with
long straight tension braces and inserted loft in 2 right bays. Single-
purlin roof in 7 unequal bays with variety of queen-strut trusses and raking
struts from tie beams to principal rafters; straight windbraces. One jowled
wall post, probably reused.
