ST GILES IN THE WOOD
Gateway approximately 2 metres south of South Lodge

Gateway. Formerly to south drive to Stevenstone House. Circa 1870. Sandstone
ashlar and local stone rubble. Tall pair of gate piers are square in section with
chamfered plinths and moulded caps surmounted by the Rolle arms carved in limestone.
Each inner side has an engaged pilaster surmounted by a carved acnathus scroll under
the capital. Similar acanthus scroll on the outer side on top of the flanking outer
walls which ramp up to support the scroll. Original timber gates to pedestrian
walkway and carriageway.
