Farmhouse. Dated 1639 on bed cupboard but possibly older; C18 additions include
1st floor and byre. Coursed rubble with quoins; lime-washed. House has
graduated slate roof with stone-flagged eaves; byre has graduated stone-flag
roof. 2 storeys. House of 4 bays with stair outshut to rear: Plank outer door
in gabled porch with 3-light mullioned window to right, C20 casement and two
2-light mullioned windows (one blocked) to left; two C19 sashes above. All
mullions chamfered in chamfered surrounds. 2-bay byre has 2 late C18/early C19
casements, with wide glazing bars, to 1st floor; byre door to rear. Stone end
chimneys to house. House interior: Panelled bed cupboard (now used as larder)
in kitchen. Main ground floor room has corniced and bracketed fireplace with
foliate chip-carving to lintel (similar in type to dated local fireplaces of the
late C18); wrought-iron crane and cast-iron range (BOWERBANK, PENRITH). C18
panelled and corniced spice cupboard to left of fireplace; later cupboard built
into wall between this room and kitchen. Panelled doors. Large beams with deep
chamfers; inserted joists are moulded with stop chamfers.
