House and cottage, probably late C18, reworked for 2nd Marquis of
Westminster c.1830s. Coursed red sandstone with added brown brick
corbelling at eaves and crowns of half-gables. Grey slate roof. 4
chimneys with Gothick spirally moulded brick flues on stone plinths.
An L shaped 2 storey building: 3 window south wing and 2 windows of
east wing comprise the house, north window of east wing the cottage.
Open porches have gables of two slabs of stone on shaped sandstone
brackets. Iron lattice casements to cottage and at back of house;
other windows timber replacements in unaltered openings. Oak board
door with ornate wrought iron hinges and handle to house; replacement
boarded door to cottage. Modern glazed verandah on south (left) face
of house. Probably the earliest identifiable Eaton estate dwellings in
Eccleston village.
