Terrace of 6 houses and attached railings to Nos 108, 110 and
112. c1835. Builders, Urch and Seabright of Fairview. Stucco
(where original, otherwise render) over brick with slate roof,
hipped at right and brick party-wall stacks with cornices;
iron railings and verandah.
EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, 12 first-floor windows 2 per house; No.
116 occupies a corner site and has curved angle with 2 further
first-floor windows to right return. Stucco detailing includes
continuous first-floor band, frieze, cornice and blocking
course with copings. 6/6 first-floor and 8/8 ground-floor
sashes where original. Shop windows to right have slender
mullions. Left entrances are C20 doors with fanlights, some
with radial glazing bars, Nos 114 and 116 have Gothic glazing
bars; further shop entrance to right angle, double part-glazed
INTERIOR: not inspected.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: No.116 has verandah around right angle,
to ground floor, on slender columns. Railings attached to Nos
108, 110 and 112.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Fairview Road was developed from c1806; it
occupies part of the open fields 'inclosed' by Act of
Parliament in 1806 to enable their development as building
(Sampson A and Blake S: A Cheltenham Companion: Cheltenham:
1993-: 45; Cheltenham Local History Society Journal, Vol III:
Blake S: Urch and Seabright of Fairview: 1985-: 13-23).
