1840. Originally built as the Chesterfield Union Workhouse. Red brick with stone
dressings and stone bands between 1st and 2nd, and 2nd and 3rd floors. Slate roof,
centre white cupola with 4 round arches and modillion cornice. 4 storeys. 1 centre
window on each floor flanked by full height brick bays each containing 3 windows
Generally sashes with glazing bars, the ground floor unbarred. Bays terminate
in pediments with stone cornices. Side of block also pedimented. Centre rusticated
stone arch.
