School, part converted to dwelling. c.1850. Endowed by H. Cowper. Red
brick with white brick dressings. Fishscale patterned machine tiled
roof. Half H on plan. 1 storey and attics. 3 bay central range has
gabled projection to centre with a gauged brick 4 centred arch over a
cross casement with flanking tall lights, 2 lights in gable. All windows
have slightly cambered heads, chamfered surrounds, diamond pattern
panes. Dentilled brick eaves. Outer bays of central range have 6 light
mullion and transom windows. Wings extend forward at ends. 4 bay
re-entrant elevations with two 4 light mullion and transom windows
towards rear, front bay has 6 light mullion and transom windows with
plank and muntin doors between with diamond pane fanlights. Corbelled
out over entrances are 2 light dormers with kneelers to coped gabled
heads. Front gable ends of wings have ground floor tripartite transomed
windows of 2:4:2 lights, 2 lights in attics, shaped kneelers to coped
gable parapets with flattened ends. On ridge of right wing are 2 cross
axial stacks with triple chamfered shafts. 3 bay returns to wings,
altered openings, an entrance on right end. Gable ends of main range to
rear extend slightly further with 3 tall lights, gables as to front.
Interior not inspected. Victorian posting box in wall of left front
gable end. Enclosing yard in front 2 walls extend from gable ends of
wing: about lm high, dentilled course below coping, buttresses, small
stone capped end piers.
